Cromwell Endocrine Surgery Centre
Committed to safety and excellence
in minimally invasive endocrine surgery
The BUPA Cromwell Hospital previously known as the Cromwell Hospital has for 25 years been one of the foremost hospitals in the world and we delighted that it is now part of the BUPA organisation. Bupa are investing £30 million into the Bupa Cromwell Hospital as part of a plan to create a unique Bupa flagship private hospital in London. The Bupa Cromwell is unique in the private sector in the UK in that it has all the necessary facilities under one roof, ranging from adult and paediatric intensive care to state of the art radiotherapy, including a Gamma Knife. Within the BUPA Cromwell Hospital the Endocrine Surgery Centre whose head is Mr John Lynn provides a comprehensive service for private patients in the surgical management of thyroid, parathyroid, adrenal and pancreatic endocrine disease. These services are also available for children by Mr John Lynn.
Mr Lynn and Mr Fleming use a multidisciplinary approach, with the support of a team comprising medical endocrinologists, specialist radiologists, anaesthetists and pathologists. The Centre members have been in the lead of the development of minimally invasive techniques in endocrine surgery, and pioneered the use of intraoperative parathyroid hormone assay for parathyroid surgery. No thyroid or parathyroid operation is performed without intra-operative nerve monitoring, resulting in voice change rates considerably below the reported UK rate (0.2% as compared to 2.2%).
The team performs in excess of 360 major endocrine cases per year and has special expertise in cases where previous surgeons have failed.
Mr John Lynn as well as being the Head of the Centre, and is one of the most experienced endocrine surgeons in the UK. Both Mr Lynn and Mr Fleming provide the full range of minimally invasive endocrine surgery for the thyroid and parathyroid, and Mr Fleming also performs minimally invasive laparoscopic adrenalectomy.
Mr Alberto Isla's expertise is really quite unique. He a pure laparoscopic surgeon and has developed the laparoscopic excision of pancreatic insulinomas with a 100% success rate. His experience in this sophisticated approach to the management of this difficult tumour is unrivalled in the World!
In addition Mr Fleming and Mr Isla provide endocrine surgical services under the umbrella of the Imperial College School of Medicine with facilities available for private patients at the Hammersmith Sainsbury Wing, Charing Cross Hospital and St Mary's Hospital, Paddington.
By special arrangement, Mr Lynn, Mr Fleming and the team travel abroad to provide appropriate surgical care. Such trips have been welcomed in the past by the local physicians and surgeons particularly when the case is complex and the medical condition of the patient makes travel difficult. Where appropriate, a written opinion can be provided without direct patient consultation. Details of the fees for these services are available upon request.
Further information is available at the Bupa Cromwell Endocrine Surgery Centre website.
