This section contains information on the details of adrenal surgery including the types of operation there are and the details of operations. Some sections are written in detail for surgeons and some may contain pictures of surgery that some people may not wish to view. A recent review of adrenalectomy in England in the financial year 2005/2006 has raised some concerns. 494 patients had 528 adrenalectomies.About half the operations were performed by surgeons with a case load of less than 5 cases a year. All deaths were in the hands of these surgeons while surgeons with a volume of more than 5 cases a year had no deaths and performed most operations by the keyhole method. The moral to this research is to make sure one goes to a specialist centre that does a large volume of adrenal surgery.
