Ultrasound

This is a painless, non-invasive imaging technique that uses sound waves to create an image of an organ. A probe emits ultra high frequency sound waves which are reflected back to the probe in an altered state depending on the shape and composition of the target. These reflected waves can then be reconstructed by a computer to create an image. It does not provide as much information as techniques such as CT or MRI but is a useful starting point in investigation.
