What is a Calcitoninoma?

Calcitonin is secreted by a number of pancreatic tumours, particularly those of islet cells. It may therefore be useful as a marker in detecting these tumours. An excess of calcium may cause hypersecretion of water and electrolytes in the small intestine, leading to diarrhoea.
