How is the Diagnosis of Gonadotrophinomas & TSHomas made?

The diagnosis of Thyrotrophin (TSH)-secreting pituitary adenomas is made from the serum TSH level. In a TSHoma, there will be raised TSH with usually raised T3/4.

The most common biochemical abnormality in gonadotrophinomas is an elevated FSH level, although in some cases both FSH and LH are elevated.

A high resolution CT scan or MRI scan is used for specific localisation of the tumours.
