The aims of surgery

The aim of pituitary surgery is based on two main principles:

1) Surgery attempts to restore endocrine hormone levels to normal in patients with hypersecretory adenomas.

2) Surgery attempts to relieve the pressure exerted by a tumour on any surrounding anatomy.
